ôMonumentö, part of the private-released ôChroniclesö cd-r box set, sure will jog the memory and stir the appetite of Em-fans around the world, especially those in Europe who were able to see Belgium synthesist Patrick Kosmos (aka Patrick Wille De Wael) live in action in the Æ80s and Æ90s during one of his many shows.

I myself have fond memories of the stage presence of this talented cosmic courier just sitting on the ground in front of his gear with all brand names of his synths made invisible, elevating himself and his audience to higher places with his accessible, melodic-spiced and cinematic cosmic music. Being inspired in his early days by bands of the so-called German Kosmische Schule such as Ash Ra Tempel, Tangerine Dream, Eberhard Schoener, Popol Vuh and most notably Klaus Schulze, Patrick Kosmos didnÆt waste time to venture out to find his own sound.

The five tracks on the 68-minute ôMonumentö mix colourful, majestic, ethnic-flavoured, dreamy textures along some dramatic passages with drums/percussion, some e-guitar solos and Berlin School sequences to a cohesive and captivating sound design that keeps evolving.
Patrick would have been delighted with this improved re-release (despite a few audio flaws) and the renewed focus on his back catalogue I reckon. - Bert Strollenberg
